Here’s what we learned at the industry’s largest national convention in March 2023
Last month the team at CHC Training traveled to Nashville, TN, where the Environmental Information Association (EIA) hosted its annual conference. After three full days of networking, exhibiting at our booth, learning, and simply celebrating an in-person reunion with our friends and peers, we have lots to share.
For those who weren’t able to attend in person, here’s a quick recap. Highlights for CHC Training were chatting with other attendees at our booth, embracing the southern cowboy theme, and taking home a service award in the category of “Publication.” We also learned so much from this gathering! Take a look at our top three insights.
Themes of diversity and inclusion provided a platform for industry experts to share best practices and strategies
The EIA shares our goal of making the environmental safety industry accessible, inclusive, and prosperous for everyone – regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances. We learned from others who are making progress and removing barriers, and came back with a renewed commitment to our own Crew Raiser program, which donates training to newcomers in the industry. Through our recent Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training (EWDJT) Grant, we were able to successfully add over 44 licensed and trained individuals to our industry – at no cost to them!
Not only was Nashville ALIVE with energy, but this conference proved yet again to be the best event to network and make new connections
To be sure, the conference agenda is packed with useful workshops and technical sessions. But the greatest value for us has always been the in-person opportunities to meet and catch up with industry peers and friends. Pro tip: Get out on the town to enjoy the destination. There is always a local event, such as this year’s Nashville Predators vs. Toronto Maple Leaves hockey game, to enjoy and take in the excitement of the location.
Investing in professional development is one sure way to help individuals advance in their careers
One of our favorite things about the environmental safety industry is that there are clear ladders for career advancement for highly motivated individuals. We love helping people make their way upward. Beyond just training individuals for their roles, we care about our students’ career advancement and professional success. One great way to invest in your own professional development? Join EIA and be sure to attend next year’s conference.
We Won an Award!
One highlight of the event was receiving a plaque, which we literally got to take home with us. Danaya Wilson, our Co-founder and CEO, was recognized for her service with the Publications Award this year. This makes a great addition to the Service in Training and Education award she took home from the EIA conference in 2022. Thank you to everyone who was there to cheer us on!
